WEST LA CNCT is proud to present featured 2011 XXL Freshman and rising star in the hip-hop game, Kendrick Lamar. Coming out of Compton, California Kendrick Lamar’s music has definite influences from artists among the likes of 2Pac and Nas. Although never in a gang himself, Kendrick Lamar depicts the struggle of growing up in the harsh streets of Compton through his story-like lyrics, providing a captivating first hand perspective to his listeners. He is also a member of the group Black Hippy, along with rappers Jay-Rock, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q. He released an EP in 2009 entitled The Kendrick Lamar EP, an acclaimed mixtape in 2010 titled O(verly) D(edicated) and plans to release his debut album Good Kid in a Mad City in 2011. Definitely one of my current favorite artists. Check out some of these hot tracks!
