Kraddy – Anthems of the Hero

12 Oct

Matthew Kratz is mainly known for being the founding member of the LA based Glitch Mob, but recently he has been doing a solo project under the moniker Kraddy. He just released a 10 song album that you can get for free below. Kraddy is taking classic rock n’roll and fusing it with the bass music of today. Kratz worked along side producer Ross Robinson from Korn & The Cure, John Theodore the drummer of Mars Volta, and guitarist Cody Volato from Blood Brothers. Kratz’s whole motivation behind this project was to model it similar to Led Zeppelin‘s old albums and you can definitely tell from the sounds what he is talking about. The album is entitled Anthems of the Hero. Check it out.

Zedd, Zeds Dead, Mimosa & ill.Gates, & Oblivion

5 Oct

Zedds not dead baby! Zeds not dead! Haven’t from Zedd or Zeds Dead in awhile, but they both put out new music yesterday. Zedd finally released Shave it on Skrillex’s new label, “OWSLA”. After much twitter hype about the song I was expecting big things. Shave it has some old original electro style’s mixed in with Zedd‘s high energy production style and the end result is perfection. Support Zedd, go buy his track on Beatport, oh and don’t forget to Shave it up

Zedd – Shave It

Next we have Zeds Dead and their latest EP release on “Mad Decent Records”, Rumble in the Jungle featuring two songs; Rumble in the Jungle and Undah Yur Skirt. The Canadian duo did it again, both of these songs push the envelope of dubstep, and not towards that “frat boy market”. Check out Undah Yur Skirt feat. Mavado and if you like support the artist and go buy it on Beatport

Zeds Dead – Undah Yur Skirt

Ill.Gates, one of my favorite Glitch-hop artists put out an 18 track full length release called Ill.Methodology. The release has collaborations with the likes of Mimosa, Datsik, and Samples. My favorite of the release so far is the collab with Mimosa Never Alone. Mimosa seems to be on point with every one of his releases and this one is no different. The song has a very mellow sound to it and on this rainy day it will definitely be on repeat in my room. Check it out.

ill.Gates & Mimosa – Never Alone

Bonus Track: It’s my first post and I have too many tracks in my pocket right now, Oblivion put out an awesome remix of Lily Allen‘s Not Fair, which sounds very Flux Pavillion like.  You can download it for free from his own posting on Mediafire by clicking here.

Monday Goodies #4

25 Jul

I’m back up in LA after a brief visit back home in Newport Beach. I’m sure you’re all giddy for some goodies on this lovely Monday, so I’m doing my best to deliver. I figured it would only be a matter of time till there were remixes of Goldfish, but it surprised me to come across Fedde’s new mix today. GRiZ’s “Rock N Roll” is a pretty groovin’, hip-hop influenced track that I could definitely see released on Pretty Lights Music. Get your tech-house on with the body movin’ Bass Kleph remix. Last but not least, Gladkill’s remix of Ill-Esha’s track, “Only Fair,” will satisfy your mellow low-end needs. You know what to do.

Summer Vibes (Wolfgang Gartner, Axwell, Pretty Lights, ///Bones)

26 Jun

This morning, I pleasantly woke up to beaming sunshine coming through my window. It’s always a good start to the day when I can see nothing but blue skies and feel the warm air. Anyway, it has been an eventful weekend with Dada Life, Hardwell, Mr. White, Andy D’Arrigo, and ///Bones on Friday at the Avalon and a Dodger game yesterday. I’m feeling some summer vibes today, so I thought I’d let you feel the same. These should do the trick…

Adele- Hometown Glory (Axwell Remode Remix)

Pretty Lights- Pretty Lights vs Summertime

///Bones released his fresh Summer 2011 mix last week and it’s nothing but quality. You really can’t go wrong with tribal beats, electro, and even some disco house. Enjoy.

Pretty Lights Music: Gramatik

19 Jun

Recently, Pretty Lights has been very impressive with his performances at Lightning in a Bottle and Bonnaroo. After hearing his latest tracks, He also seems to be improving his production skills, which is excellent to see. He is rising further as an artist, but also as a record label owner. He just brought on Gramatik, “an unbelievably talented and versatile producer, who makes tracks with soul and raw power” (PL). With Gramatik’s first release on Pretty Lights Music, I’d have to agree with that statement. Check it out.

Gramatik- So Much For Love

Here’s a rip of the new track Pretty Lights premiered at Bonnaroo!

Lightning In A Bottle 2011

23 May

Los Angeles is home to a plethora of excellent music companies, but The Do LaB is certainly one that stands out amongst the rest. For more than a decade, their creative minds have been providing Southern California with a very unique service: creating an experience as an art form. Driven by a desire to challenge people’s preconceived notions of reality and what is
possible, the countless hours of work and dedication of The Do LaB, has led to the gathering of thousands in celebration of Art, Music, Performance, Sustainability and Life.

The Lightning In A Bottle Festival has found it’s home in the beautiful and inspiring environment of the Oak Canyon Ranch in Silverado, CA (an hour South of LA), which is surrounded by rolling hills, lush Oak Trees, and reservoirs. Taking into account all that the festival has to offer in this natural setting is just one of the things that makes it a truly unique experience.

Music and Art are certainly the main attractions of the festival, but The Do LaB wanted to create a more worthwhile and beneficial opportunity for anyone who is willing to take the time to learn through their educational offerings such as speakers and workshops. If you are more musically inclined (as I am), you are set for a very memorable weekend with a vast array of artists including Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, MiM0SA, and the Lucent Dossier Experience, to name a few. I’ve also been dying to see some smaller acts such as Gladkill, Stephan Jacobs, and Love & Light.

As for Art, there will be a number of beautiful works ranging from large installations to paintings to crafts from vendors. There will also be a silent auction held for the benefit of The Do LaB’s non-profit organization, The Do ArT Foundation. I can’t wait to explore and discover all of the art featured at the festival!

These next few days will be painstakingly slow, as I am ecstatic to attend my first Lightning In A Bottle with WEST LA CNCT‘s own: Allione and Nathan Podshadley. Since the beginning of the festival over 10 years ago with only 200 attendees, it has definitely come a long way, and I am looking forward to watching it grow and develop further!

I want to wish everyone a safe and incredible weekend, we will see you there!

Check out the set times here and if you want to listen to something to get you ready for the dancing and shenanigans that will take place, the Sex Pixels have just the mix for you. They were the winners of a mix contest which got them an opening slot at the Bamboo stage Friday afternoon. Enjoy!

Musication presents: Steve Aoki & The LA Battle of the DJs at the Avalon Hollywood Post-Event

27 Apr

Too much work to do? Stressed over finals? Don’t have enough time? It seems like everyone is grinding through the last weeks of the school year, but for the attendees of the first Musication show last night, it was a completely different story.

The night commenced with an opening set by LMU’s Doc P, aka Danny Parra, a member of the hip-hop group Random Citizens. He set the tone for the LA Battle of the DJs with a unique blend of hip-hop and electronic music, which was complimented nicely by his excellent turntablism – something none of the other DJs have in their arsenal. Next up was UCLA’s DJ Mico. He started off strong with some some bass heavy tunes that seemed to bring up the energy quite a bit. That energy level was held throughout his whole set, but there were definitely times where it was raised. Most notably, when he mixed into the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Otherside,” Afrojack’s “Take Over Control,” and Pretty Lights’ “Fly Away Another Day”. USC’s Tony Fresch was the closer for the battle, and he certainly finished it off with a bang. With some hard electro and other fist-pump worthy bangers, he gave DJ Mico a run for his money, racking up votes to beat the UCLA favorite by only 1%! Congratulations to the winner of the LA Battle of the DJs, Tony Fresch, and big ups to Doc P and DJ Mico for excellent sets all around!

Once the battle was over, I could feel the vibe of the Avalon change with anticipation of the headliner for the night, Steve Aoki. This was my 4th time seeing him, so I knew what to expect and he did not disappoint. In the midst of all of the hard electro, Mr. Aoki, being a showman, practiced his usual stage antics and seemed to be a master of puppets, controlling the crowd with his engaging mixing. As if that wasn’t enough, there was a cake (yes, a cake), a pool float, and confetti to keep things fun and interesting. Not to mention the Steve Aoki look-alike who was brought up on stage for a short period of time. Musication definitely made a great decision with selecting the appropriate headliner for their first event and I think all the Los Angeles college party people would agree! I had such a great time throughout whole night and I feel it was a unique experience for many. I can’t wait for the Musication to come! Keep an eye out for more events next school year!

If you like the photo featured in this post, you can thank WEST LA CNCT’s incredibly talented photographer, Nathan Podshadley! Check out more of his photos by clicking the link below. While you’re at it, here are some tunes that really heated up the Avalon and I’ve included a bonus inspired by Steve Aoki dropping Diddy-Dirty Money’s “I’m Coming Home ft. Skylar Grey”. Enjoy!

Assorted Bass

24 Mar

Hello, Hello. I have a little assortment of bass for you all to enjoy on this wonderful Thursday! Datsik’s “Wake Up” remix is really heavy with deep tones so be careful with that one. As for Hulk’s “Shelter” remix and “Stereo sun,” they are both pretty solid tracks. R/D’s “Passion Designer” offers some glitchy type dub and Apollo Brown’s “Never In A Million Years” is a mellow hip-hop instrumental that I just threw in for kicks. Enjoy.

Steve Aoki & Sidney Samson- Wake Up Call (Datsik Remix)

The xx- Shelter (HULK Remix)

Eric Turner- Stereo Sun (Sako Dubstep Remix)

R/D- Passion Designer

Apollo Brown- Never In A Million Years
